Healthy communication with your helper

Share clear (& fair) expectations from the start

Setting expectations from the start allows your helper to prioritise the tasks that have to be done and manage her time at your place. Let your helper know if there are specific important areas to focus on. In case there isn’t enough time, she will at least be able to complete the important tasks before leaving.

Give your helper space to do her work

We’re sure you’ll feel stressed at work if your boss is constantly staring at you or micro-managing you. Similarly, your helper will feel stressed too!

Constantly staring at your helper and following her around while she’s working is not going to help. Instead, give her space to do the work and check in once in a while to see her progress.

Communicate areas of improvement kindly

When there are areas of improvement for your helper in future, communicate them kindly. Take the final 5-10 minutes of the session to check through and give your feedback. No one wants to be reprimanded without being told of how they can improve. Give your helper a few chances and see if they improve.

If not, feel free to feedback to us and we’ll see how we can help!

Don’t threaten or use scare tactics

Threatening or scaring your helper will only cause greater strain and further worsen communication. Just like you and I, your helper is human and has feelings too. They too deserve to be treated with dignity and respect even though you are their client and are paying them to do the work.
