Where’s Marie Kondo? Did She Disappear?

Decluttering and tidying guru, Marie Kondo, generated a buzz on the Internet at the start of 2019 after her Netflix series, “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo”, premiered on the streaming site. With her warm demeanour and gentle voice, she captured the hearts of people all over the world, and also their closets and homes.

The popularity of her series has since died down and you might be wondering how she’s doing or what she’s been up to.

Wondering if Marie Kondo still tidying up? The answer is absolutely yes!

For those who haven’t got enough of “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo”, KonMari has confirmed that there will be a new Marie Kondo series airing on Netflix this summer! It will be titled “Sparking Joy with Marie Kondo” where Kondo will apply her KonMari method of tidying to businesses, relationships, and communities.

Besides that, viewers will also get a sneak peek into Kondo’s real life, her family, and how she applies her principles of “sparking joy” in her daily life as well.

How to KonMari?

If you haven’t heard of the KonMari method, it is Marie Kondo’s trademark tidying up method that encourages tidying up by category, not by location or rooms. You should start with clothes, then books, then papers, then miscellaneous items, and finish off with sentimental items. Only keep items that speak to the heart and spark joy.

In short, the 3 steps below summarise the KonMari method if you want to give it a shot.

1. Commit yourself to tidying up.

It can be tough to commit to something, especially when it means decluttering and throwing things out. You can get easily distracted or want to give up when you see the mess. But Kondo’s advice is that you just have to commit to it and make it an all-or-nothing.

2. Tidy by category, not by location.

While most of us will prefer to tidy or clean room by room, Marie Kondo says we should tidy by category. This means that if you’re tidying your clothes, remove ALL your clothes from the cupboards and drawers and lay them all out. Then, pick up each piece and decide whether it sparks joy. If it doesn’t, then throw it out. You should also plan how to dispose of or donate the stuff you’ve thrown out.

3. Fold clothes the KonMari way.

Kondo recommends folding clothes instead of hanging them. She has shared her KonMari way of folding clothes that makes them stand upright. This method not only helps to save space but also makes for a neat closet. Apparently, you can use this folding method for all clothing items, from sweaters to socks.
